Men’s Hockey, Paris Olympics 2024:

At the Paris Olympics 2024, on Sunday, day 9, the Indian men’s hockey team had a successful day. They defeated Great Britain in a penalty shootout. The 60-minute match ended in a 1-1 tie, leading to a penalty shootout to determine the winner. The Indian team emerged victorious, beating Britain 4-2 in the penalty shootout and securing a spot in the semi-finals. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh played a pivotal role in the victory by saving two goals in the penalty shootout.

Both teams scored in the second quarter:

In the first quarter of the match between the two teams, the score was tied at 0-0. However, during the second quarter, both teams displayed aggressive play. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal, giving the Indian team a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, the British team scored a goal, bringing the score to 1-1, with Lee Morton scoring for Britain. Following these goals, no further scoring occurred from either team.

Team India played with only 10 players:

During this important match, Team India faced a setback in the second quarter when Amit Rohidas was shown a red card, resulting in his expulsion from the game. As a result, the Indian men’s hockey team had to play the rest of the match with only 10 players. Despite this disadvantage, the team defended well and did not concede any goals.

Sreejesh once again proved to be the solid wall for India:

The Indian defence successfully repelled every attack from Britain under the leadership of 36-year-old goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who is competing in his final Olympics. Despite Britain’s 28 attempts on the Indian goal, they only managed to score once. During the shootout, Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, and Rajkumar Pal scored goals for India, while James Albery and Jacques Vallance scored for England. Connor Williamson missed the target, and Philip Roper’s shot was saved by Sreejesh.
